With the STARKID SUMMER SEASON, we wanted to bring our fans more content than ever before, and that includes those who have an ocean in the way (or just general space). Here a few important things to know about our broadcasts!

And there is an option to watch the livestream later on, if you don’t fancy staying up all night as we international fans often do. Yet, who would want to wait for new Starkid?
OK, Hiccup’s relationship with Valka!
Agh, so, in the previous gifset I tumbled, Valka snuck her way into touching Hiccup’s face without his permission. Here she snatches her hand away, then sees he doesn’t mind, and puts it back. And then he leans into it.
There’s just something really gut-punching and raw for me in Hiccup’s eagerness for Valka’s affection and approval. He’s amazed by what she represents, and what she can tell him about his own identity, but at the heart of it, here’s a woman he loves instantly in a very vulnerable way. He’s happy to throw off Viking social conventions in order to interact with her. And how unusual for us to get a film about a twenty-year-old’s loving relationship with his mother! This moment feels very bold to portray on screen.
The thing I loved most about Valka was that she was SO afraid Hiccup would hate her for not coming back- she was so afraid he would recoil from her touch- hate everything about her and Hiccup was just happy to have a mother- he was just happy to have someone who understood what dragons meant to him. He IS vulnerable- it’s an unconditional surrender- as soon as she showed him the dragons it was like he was too impressed to be angry- he was even afraid to let her know that it was him who had tried to trap Toothless- you could see his hesitation and then he made it a joke, but he was seriously nervous that maybe she would not accept him if she knew.
Both were going into this shocking revelation that they’ve found one another and both wanted to love one another. Hiccup slid into his accepting of her, so happy to just have his mother after so many years of believing she was dead, not really wondering much why she didn’t come back and just happy she was real- and Val afraid to touch him, so scared she might somehow make Hiccup hate her because she was so different from regular vikings… Their relationship in the movie was SPOT ON in my book and I love it more than anything.
Unconditional love. They’re family, so nothing else matters.
Slave gravesite in New York City
“SOMETHING YOUR TOUR GUIDE MIGHT NOT TELL YOU:
The heart of NYC’s Financial District is built on a huge 18th century African Burial Ground. Some 419 Africans were discovered in 1991, a large portion women and children.
The burial ground extends from Broadway Southward under City Hall, and almost to the site of the former World Trade Center. It is believed that there are as many as 20,000 slavery-era Africans in graves under the buildings in Lower Manhattan.
Abolish historical amnesia and ponder for a moment the fact that this financial epicenter of the world is built on slavery, oppression, and death.”
Literally, and daily.
