Protect Our Privacy

Your privacy doesn’t matter.

That’s what the US government and certain companies appear to be telling you with the latest bill before the US Congress, the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act. We all agree that cyber security is important for users. But this bill is a step in the wrong direction, because it allows for the unlimited sharing of personal data among private companies and the government, without a single safeguard for civil liberties.

With a vote on CISPA set for this Thursday, we need to convince technology companies supporting CISPA, like AT&T, Facebook, Microsoft, and Verizon, that protecting us against cyber threats should not come at the expense of our privacy.

Sign the petition and reblog guys! CISPA is SOPA’s evil big brother. Seriously.

BREAKING: House Approves CISPA!

A last-minute push by critics of a bill that would allow Internet companies to open their networks to the Feds didn’t work. The House approved CISPA by a 248-168 vote.

The U.S. House of Representatives today approved a controversial Internet surveillance bill, rejecting increasingly vocal arguments from critics that it would do more to endanger Americans’ privacy than aid cybersecurity.

By a vote of 248 to 168, a bipartisan majority approved the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, or CISPA, which would permit Internet companies to hand over confidential customer records and communications to the National Security Agency and other portions of the U.S. government.

Chris Colfer on Chelsea Lately - April 12th, 2012

I’m working on getting a proper 720p version up, but here’s a fairly HQ version in the meantime. Also, it’s still processing so it’s not at its full quality but it will be in a minute~
